CARROT JUICE

There are two main juices we feel should be the basis of a juicing regimen - carrot juice and green juices.  This page will be dedicated to carrot juice and its benefits.

We try to drink 2 8oz glasses a day.  For maintenance of health this is a good amount for you to strive for.  For those people trying to overcome a disease such as cancer, we suggest 4-6 8oz glasses a day.  At the Gerson Institute they have their patients drinking  a glass of fresh juice every hour (alternating between carrot and a green juice).

Carrot juice can help to normalize your entire system.  It is the richest source of Vitamin A and has a good supply of Vitamins B, C, D, E, G, and K.  It is an excellent digestive.

Carrot juice, along with a green juice is excellent for nursing mothers to enhance the quality of their milk.  In
Fresh Vegetable and Fruit Juices, Norman Walker, D.Sc. states, "One pint of carrot juice, daily, has more constructive body value than 25 pounds of calcium tablets."

He also states that, "Raw carrot juice is a natural solvent for ulcerous and cancerous conditions.  It is resistant to infections, doing most efficient work in conjunction with the adrenal glands.  It helps prevent infections of the eye and throat as well as the tonsils and sinuses and the respiratory organs generally. It also protects the nervous system and is unequalled for increasing vigor and vitality."

We all know that carrots are a good source of beta carotene.  So lets spend a few minutes on the importance of beta-carotene.  Beta carotene is transformed by the body into Vitamin A, which is important for a healthy immune system and healthy cell growth.   Beta carotene is a potent antioxidant, which fight free radicals and help prevent them from causing cell damage (which lead to the degenerative diseases).

For those of you who have heard of Vitamin A toxicity, don't worry, beta carotene from a natural source cannot be toxic to the body.  It is not transformed into Vitamin A unless it is needed.

A study by the
American Journal of Clinical Nutrition (63:729), May 1996, indicates that beta carotene from natural sources is better than synthetic, laboratory-made versions of beta carotene.  In this study the researchers compared blood levels of oxidized lipids (indicator of free radicals) in groups of men.  Some taking naturally derived beta carotene, some taking synthetic beta carotene, and some taking placebos.  After 2 weeks, the men taking natural beta carotene had 25% lower levels of oxidized lipids than any other group.  This indicated less free radical activity and greater antioxidant ability.  The group taking the synthetic beta carotene had a higher concentration of oxidized lipids than those taking the placebos!  Scientists believe that the reason for this lies in an isomer that is present in natural beta carotene but not in synthetic.

Enough of the facts, just try it and see what a difference it makes.  Carrot juice is not only tasty and refreshing, but can give you a bundle of energy and a healthier body!
